Anti-Prep Day:

Ok, so today is an anti-prep day. If you know me well, you know how much I dislike trends and the people who zealously fall into them. My dislike for this has reach the level of writing songs against the prep movement and pop culture (i.e. “Fashion Swine”). What is the huge drive of being a walking billboard for a multimillion dollar business that forces teenagers to get and job for the sole purpose of spending money on fashion?

So I was talking to Brent last night and said, “You know, I am gunna pull an anti-prep day one of these days.” Seeing as how I’ve mentioned doing something of the like before, but lacked in the followthrough, I chose to put my plan into effect. So out of spite for both fashion trends and disbelievers, I dawned my “preppy” clothes because I don’t pull off the look.

So here is my garb: my brown cords for pants, white dress shirt under a blue/gray sweeter with two yellow stripes across the chest. Not to mention the blue, green, yellow, and red plaid tie. And then there is my hair... oh my hair. It has been black for a few days now. I combed my hair over, but with a little bit of a curve at the end: so it’s sort of like this, a gelled comb over with spikes at the front and end. I still wore all my accessories (5 pony bead bracelets, ATF necklace, Vans with black and white checkered laces and Decepticons wrist band) to complete the look.

I was talking with someone and they made a very valid point: the clothes themselves aren’t wrong, it’s the trend - it’s about style rather than trend. I do see that. I wear stuff that I like, because it expresses part of who I am. What I don’t get is how someone could spend that much of a shirt just to be a bill board.

So here is the bottom line:

Be yourself. Don’t follow trends or be another number. Stand up. Think for yourself.
