Demands, Demands, Demands:
Have you ever thought about it when someone asks you for something? Does the question ever pop into your mind, "when is the last time I held a civil conversation with" the person in question? Being employed in the library, I have stopped asking that question. Over half of the people that are patrons of the Roger's Memorial Library are unknown to me. It isn't that I don't know who they are, it's just that I never talk to over half of them. I don't know whether that is a sad thing or not.
I have noticed that the desires for certain library materials makes students lose any grasp they might have had on tact. I know that I have mentioned before that this job involves dealing with many demanding people, but none like tonight.
I'm sure that it doesn't help that my sarcasm and negative attitude are at an all time low (If you could not tell that this comment is dripping with the aforementioned sarcasm... please bend over so I can kick you in the ..... teeth.) I don't know what it is. I suppose the fact that I?m working an extended shift doesn?t help. I'm not sure who it was that decided that we should extend our evening hours for those who are working on the mighty exegesis project. Why didn?t they do that for us?
So here I am at the library, with the Dashboard Confessional lyrics: "I wish that I was anywhere, with anyone..." , but certainly not here. Library work is not bad. I'm not complaining about the job, I'm complaining about the people. Their procrastination bothers me because it means that I have to give up my energy and find some resource of patience to attempt to meet the individual request.
Because of the current outlook and attitude, I find it only fitting to quote Peter Gibben from Office Space: "'So I was sitting in my cubical today and I realized ever since I started working... um ... every single day has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.' - 'Does that mean today, Peter, is the worst day of your life?' - 'Yeah.'"
