One of THOSE Days:
Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the season, or maybe I just had a downright awful day today. I just cannot express enough how bad of a day it was. It seemed as if the things that could go wrong in my day, would, and did.
I’ll start at the beginning: waking up. I never like this part of the day, mainly because it means that I have to stop sleeping. It was a dreary day to begin with, but I woke to fighting children and uncooperation. Stuff in the yard needed to be moved immediately and I was the one to do it. Sent to aid me was not the most capable individual, but the most expendable: Gus.
Poor guy, I’d have pity on him if he didn’t instigate so much trouble, but he was sent to help me move a very heavy, very old picnic table as well as a very sizely trampoline. Let’s do some logic here: 12 year old + me = trouble lifting stuff.
When I got back inside, I proceed with my preparations for the day. I have direction today: I am to go out and seek employment. Well, that’s a dandy proposal when you can find the clothes you need. Today’s missing item: the belt. I might have been able to go without it, but I was not going to go interview in the type of job that required easily lost pants - doesn’t work with my education and profession.
After 2 to 3 hours of searching, I found it and proceeded. I get to stop #2 to pick up an application. I talk to the manager for a moment and begin to fill out the application while I was sitting. Unfortunately, the information I needed (I thought) was out in the van. I grab my iPod for my address book and a resume - neither of which have the information I require.
As I am approaching the van, I notice that something is wrong. There is an iridescent stream flowing from beneath my beast: it’s antifreeze. I have had so many issues with my van leaking this same liquid that I wonder if I should even put any in it, it rejects it so much.
I place a phone call and Mom meets me in a parking lot with a jug of fluid for me. I pour it in and she follows me home. We arrive safely, but only to have Gus start pitching a fit about his homework. I leave him to whine, thinking he’ll chill out.
Thankfully, my neighbors as machine-heads and know their vehicles, so I take the van over to have them check it out. It was a water pump. He offered to fix it if I’d run out for the part. We had to run over to Lewisburg anyway to pick up my sister from baby-sitting.
On my walk back to the house, I see Gus on the roof, throwing sticks at the picture window! I try to calmly tell him to get back in the house, fearing his volatile nature will kick in and that he’d do something stupid like jump.
I fly up the stairs, out the window, and onto the roof. No big deal, right? Wrong. Two things to take into consideration. 1) I am scared to death of heights and 2) I have no health insurance. I kept thinking “I am gunna die... and if I do, I can’t afford it!” I’m able to successfully “retrieve” him and pull him down to the family’s van to come over to Lewisburg. On the way, we’re almost in 2 accidents at the hands of reckless drivers.
I get the part, bring it home for repair, and here I sit, half crazed, half dazed...
It was just one of those days..,
(to add some irony flavored icing, Blogger had a terrible time publishing this post)
